Our work

The Mosaic Teacher Training Project is a practical professional development program that supports teachers in improving their everyday classroom practice. Our goal is to help educators move beyond memorization-based teaching toward active learning, where students participate, collaborate, and take a central role in the learning process.

The Mosaic approach focuses on practical classroom techniques: clear instructions, structured lesson design, and effective use of pair and group work. Teachers experience these methods directly during intensive training sessions and reflect on how to apply them in their own classrooms.

The program includes a 5-day foundation course for teachers and a Train the Trainers course that prepares graduates to run Mosaic trainings independently in their schools and communities. In this way, the project aims to create a sustainable system of teacher development led by local educators.

Mosaic Teacher Training Workshops
Workshop overview
Our main goal is to provide educators with hands-on experience in learner-centred teaching, which they may currently lack. This includes group activities, classroom management strategies, and lesson protocols. The workshops are based on the Mosaic Foundation Teacher Training Course, which our local trainers mastered during the Train-the-Trainers programme.

Main outcomes

The Mosaic Teacher Training Project has produced several important outcomes during its pilot implementation in South Africa.

More than 150 teachers participated in the Foundation Teacher Training Course, an intensive 5-day program focused on practical classroom techniques such as clear instructions, structured lesson planning, and effective group work.

The Train the Trainers program prepared 10 local educators to deliver Mosaic training independently. Participants practiced leading sessions, received structured feedback, and developed plans to organize training events in their communities.

The project has already demonstrated strong local engagement. Between January and March 2026, newly trained Mosaic trainers organized and delivered 15 workshops in Johannesburg, reaching over 150 educators from 10 schools. These workshops included both short professional development sessions and longer training events.

Together, these results show that the Mosaic approach can build practical teaching skills, develop local training capacity, and support the growth of a community of educators committed to active and collaborative learning.

I attended the teacher training with Mosaic Foundation facilitated by Zhenya, and it was such a valuable experience. I had the opportunity to meet and share ideas with teachers from different schools across the country, which broadened my perspective on teaching practices. The sessions were practical, engaging, and thought-provoking, and I walked away with new strategies that I can apply directly in my classroom. I especially appreciated the interactive approach and the chance to learn from both the facilitator and fellow participants.
